We're excited to share some updates about ongoing projects in your neighborhood! 

 

Vanguard Community Development Corporation has received funding from the Knight Foundation to make streetscape improvements to East Grand Boulevard between Woodward Avenue and I-75 in the Historic North End Detroit neighborhood.

 

There has been much planning focused on streetscape improvements in this area over the years, and in 2020, this portion of East Grand Boulevard received a Michigan Main Street designation. The Main Street Program is focused on developing a framework for the area, while the East Grand Boulevard Transformation Project is focused on implementation.

The East Grand Boulevard Streetscape Transformation Project will develop a vision and vibe for the boulevard. It will result in a design that includes the location and type of planting, streetscape furniture, and signage on the boulevard. The streetscape transformation will take place over the next three years, starting with a community-engaged design process in Spring 2021 in partnership with Know Allegiance Nation and Detroit Mercy School of Architecture’s Detroit Collaborative Design Center.

 

At the same time, Good Done Daily and Carlos Nielbock will be working with community members to develop a vision for a North End visual identity and artistic neighborhood sign, respectively. Spackman Mossop Michaels will finalize the streetscape design and develop the required documents for city approval and installation.
